Is Your Child Working Hard Without Knowing How to Improve Their English?

National 5 English has several assessed components, and students can quickly feel unsure about where to focus.

They Don’t Know

Where to Start

RUAE, critical essays, Scottish Set Text and portfolio work can feel like too much to manage at once.

They Struggle to Apply What They Know

Your child may understand the lesson but still feel unsure about how to structure a strong answer.

Their Confidence

Drops

When marks do not reflect the effort they are putting in, motivation can quickly disappear.

Your child does not necessarily need more work. They need clearer strategies, consistent practice and regular feedback.

Hi, I’m Claire

I’m a GTCS-registered teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience, an M.A. (Hons) in English, PGCE teacher training and I am currently in the final year of my PhD.

I created Level Up Nat 5 English Group Classes because students can feel overwhelmed by the different demands of the course. My approach breaks learning into clear, manageable steps and gives students practical strategies they can apply themselves.

As a parent of two children who achieved A grades in National 5 and Higher English, I also understand the course from a parent’s perspective.

My philosophy is simple: work smarter, practise consistently and understand exactly what is required.
